Wirt's Ohrn named Class A volleyball all-state first-team captain

  • Maddie Roedersheimer was one of the main reasons why Parkersburg Catholic made the state tournament for the first time since 1995. The senior Crusaderette was a 97 percent server who had 50 blocks, 176 digs and 426 kills.
  • Buffalo libero Courtney Persinger was a dominant passer for the Bison of coach Brian Null, who said her 2.67 passing rating (on the 3.0 scale) was the best he's ever had in 13 years of coaching. Persinger concluded her senior year as a 96 percent server who had 68 aces and 684 digs.
  • Junior Mallory Chapman led Magnolia to the state tournament for the first time in more than a decade and had 75 aces, 128 blocks, 350 kills and 364 digs.
  • Charleston Catholic junior Hannah Gallian collected 750 digs to go along with 15 assists, 48 aces and 54 downed spikes.
  • Man's Summer Sword was named the second-team all-state captain.

    The rest of the second team featured Paden City's Lynnsie Parsons, Gilmer County's Julie Bishop, Charleston Catholic's Simone Assaley, Wirt County's Taylor Watson, Williamstown's Kenzie Smith, Maria Carter of Greater Beckley Christian, Trinity's Brandi Flynn, Sherman's Tori May and Allison Gilkerson of Meadow Bridge.
