PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Small-school finalists Williamstown and Tyler Consolidated each landed a pair of first-team members, but Wirt County's Emily Ohrn was chosen as captain of the Class A all-state volleyball team released today by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Maddie Roedersheimer was one of the main reasons why Parkersburg Catholic made the state tournament for the first time since 1995. The senior Crusaderette was a 97 percent server who had 50 blocks, 176 digs and 426 kills.
Buffalo libero Courtney Persinger was a dominant passer for the Bison of coach Brian Null, who said her 2.67 passing rating (on the 3.0 scale) was the best he's ever had in 13 years of coaching. Persinger concluded her senior year as a 96 percent server who had 68 aces and 684 digs.
Junior Mallory Chapman led Magnolia to the state tournament for the first time in more than a decade and had 75 aces, 128 blocks, 350 kills and 364 digs.
Charleston Catholic junior Hannah Gallian collected 750 digs to go along with 15 assists, 48 aces and 54 downed spikes.
Man's Summer Sword was named the second-team all-state captain.
The rest of the second team featured Paden City's Lynnsie Parsons, Gilmer County's Julie Bishop, Charleston Catholic's Simone Assaley, Wirt County's Taylor Watson, Williamstown's Kenzie Smith, Maria Carter of Greater Beckley Christian, Trinity's Brandi Flynn, Sherman's Tori May and Allison Gilkerson of Meadow Bridge.

Even though the 2011 state champion Tigers of head coach Janet Frazier failed to reach the Class A state tournament for the first time since 2003, the senior Ohrn did a little bit of everything for Wirt County this fall and was the top vote getter.
After changing from outside hitter to middle hitter at the start of the season, Ohrn eventually had to change positions again when Frazier moved her to setter. In her final year for the orange and black, Ohrn tallied 68 aces and produced more than 700 assists and 200 kills. She also served at 95 percent and had better than 80 blocks.
Although there were no repeat first-team Class A all-state selections this year, Tyler Consolidated's Allison Wable was a first-team honoree in Class AA last fall.
The state runner-up Silver Knights, who were swept by Williamstown in the single-A finals, placed the senior Wable and classmate Torrye Cline on the first team.
Wable, who was honored as the Little Kanawha Conference co-player of the year along with Williamstown's Brooke Cieslewski, produced 537 kills, 135 blocks, 87 digs and 37 aces. Cline, the senior setter for the Silver Knights, finished the campaign with 44 blocks, 64 aces, 305 digs and 1,003 assists.
Cieslewski, the Yellowjackets' libero who was a key cog in helping Williamstown to its second volleyball crown in school history, finished with 694 digs, 48 aces and 21 kills. Williamstown's Carley Ellison also garnered first-team honors as the versatile senior collected 47 aces, 136 blocks, 187 digs and 236 downed spikes.

East Hardy senior Morgan Mongold helped the Cougars reach the state semifinals before they bowed out in four sets to Tyler Consolidated. In her final match for EHHS, Mongold had 21 kills and 24 digs.
