Charleston is back in action next Saturday when the Golden Eagles open West Virginia Conference play at Shepherd.

  • CROSS COUNTRY: West Virginia high school cross country runners qualified for a national race with strong performances at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship South Regionals Saturday at Charlotte, N.C.

    Maggie Drazba of St. Mary's finished third and Morgantown's Amelia Paladino finished 10th in the girls race, with both earning an invitation to the national finals.

    The top 10 boys and girls finishers in the seeded races qualified to compete against runners from the South, Midwest and West regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross County Championship National Finals Dec. 8 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego.

    Fairmont's Nick Trefz was the top boys runner from West Virginia in the race, finishing 35th with a time of 15:35.

  • WVU VOLLEYBALL: West Virginia University lost its final match of the season Saturday, falling 11-25, 15-25, 8-25 to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

    The loss drops the Mountaineers to 8-22 overall and 0-16 in Big 12 play. TCU improved to 15-14 overall and 4-12 in the Big 12.
