Charleston received a 26-point, four-assist effort from Terrell Lipkins as the Golden Eagles defeated Nova Southeastern at the Nova Thanksgiving Tournament Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

It was the second win in as many days for UC (2-0).

Xavier Humphrey (15 points, four rebounds) and Evan Faulkner (15 points, three rebounds, three assists) also scored in double-figures for the Golden Eagles while Aleksander Kresic had a game-high eight rebounds.

For Nova Southeastern (2-1), Brian Cahill came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points. Justin Jeangerard added 13 points and Sean Mullin scored 10 in the Sharks' loss.

UC is off until next Saturday, when the Golden Eagles open West Virginia Conference play at Shepherd.

TECH MEN WIN: The WVU Tech men's basketball team ended its two-game losing streak, beating Lander University 80-76 during the second day of the Bluefield State Classic at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

Brandon Burgraff led the Golden Bears with 23 points, including six 3-pointers. Senior guard David Rawlinson added 18 while Jaren Marino (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Terrale Clark (11 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double figures for Tech.

All five starters for Lander scored in double figures with Corey Wright and Jareal Smith each pouring in 18 to lead the team. Dermaine Smith finished with 12 points and 19 rebounds in the loss.

Tech next plays on Dec. 1 when the Golden Bears host Bellarmine University at the Neal Baisi Athletic Center in Montgomery.

UC WOMEN LOSE: Kendal Baxter scored 28 points and April McCann added 23 points and 10 rebounds as Tusculum College handed the University of Charleston an 85-61 loss Saturday, the Golden Eagles' first of the season.

For UC (2-1), Nichole Perry scored a team-high 19 points and LeAnne Ross added 10. Tianni Kelly was the leading rebounder for the Golden Eagles, pulling down six boards. As a team, UC shot under 40 percent (20 of 53) from the floor and no player other than Perry and Ross scored more than three points.

Charleston is back in action next Saturday when the Golden Eagles open West Virginia Conference play at Shepherd.

CROSS COUNTRY: West Virginia high school cross country runners qualified for a national race with strong performances at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship South Regionals Saturday at Charlotte, N.C.

Maggie Drazba of St. Mary's finished third and Morgantown's Amelia Paladino finished 10th in the girls race, with both earning an invitation to the national finals.

The top 10 boys and girls finishers in the seeded races qualified to compete against runners from the South, Midwest and West regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross County Championship National Finals Dec. 8 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego.

Fairmont's Nick Trefz was the top boys runner from West Virginia in the race, finishing 35th with a time of 15:35.

WVU VOLLEYBALL: West Virginia University lost its final match of the season Saturday, falling 11-25, 15-25, 8-25 to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

The loss drops the Mountaineers to 8-22 overall and 0-16 in Big 12 play. TCU improved to 15-14 overall and 4-12 in the Big 12.
