CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- George Washington senior Ryan Switzer was named the Gatorade West Virginia football player of the year Thursday for the second straight year.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound running back rushed for 2,403 yards and 36 touchdowns in helping the Patriots to an 11-3 record and a Class AAA semifinals appearance. Switzer, who has verbally committed to play at North Carolina, also caught 20 passes for 253 yards and five scores.

Switzer has maintained a 3.50 grade-point average and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics in association with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is now a finalist for the Gatorade national award, which will be announced in December.
