Wood's triple-double lifts Riverside girls past Elk Valley

Brittany Wood registered a triple-double with 21 points, 18 rebounds and 13 blocked shots to lead Riverside to a 70-44 win at Elk Valley Christian in girls basketball Friday.

Cassidy Farey added eight points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (2-2). Elk Valley's Chelsea Burdette finished with 21 points while McKenzie Young added 11.

  • ST. JOE 47, WHEELING CENTRAL 39: St. Joseph's Mychal Johnson scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Fighting Irish defeated Wheeling Central in the semifinals of the Donnie Fenton Shootout.
  • Asis Petitte added 14 points for St. Joseph (2-0). For Wheeling Central (1-1), Colleen McCormick had 22 points and 18 rebounds.

  • GREENBRIER EAST 69, ROCKBRIDGE CO., VA. 56: Bianca Andre' scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Greenbrier East (2-0) won at home. Chaunte McDowell added 16 points and Elizabeth Romeo had 15.
  • Keely Fresh scored a game-best 26 points for Rockbridge County (2-3), followed by Chelsea Padgett with 13 and Lauren Rowsey with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

  • CAPITAL 62, HURRICANE 52: Khadijah Lee scored a game-high 27 points and Keke Walker finished with 20 to lead visiting Capital to a season-opening victory.
  • For the Redskins (0-1), Abby Watson led the team with 20 points to go with 11 rebounds and Tanesha Sturdivant had seven points and 13 rebounds.

  • WINFIELD 54, RIPLEY 38: Trailing by two points entering the second quarter, Winfield took command and defeated visiting Ripley.
  • Mara Rhoades scored 16 points, and Haeley Moore added 11 for the Generals (2-0). Kelli Poling had 12 to lead Ripley (0-2).

  • BUFFALO 78, CALHOUN 31: Junior Chelsey Parkins, who owns the Buffalo school record in free throws and blocks, grabbed the top spot with 615 career rebounds in helping the Bison defeat visiting Calhoun County.
  • Tiffany Bailey led the Bison (4-1) with 23 points, Parkins added 20 and Paige Roush had 14.

    Kenzie Hicks scored 11 to lead Calhoun County.

  • CLAY 66, WIRT 35: Brittany Gould scored 15 points and McKinzee Barker added 12 for host Clay County (3-0).
  • Kayla Kinney had a team-high eight points for Wirt County.

  • PARK. CATHOLIC 39, CHAS. CATHOLIC 28: Leah Hughes scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Parkersburg Catholic (2-0) won at Charleston Catholic.
  • Samantha Fletcher netted 14 points for the Fighting Irish (1-1), while Anna Whalen posted 10.

  • FAYETTEVILLE 54, MIDLAND TRAIL 52: Jessica Brown poured in a game-high 23 points as the visiting Pirates (2-0) held on for a win.
  • Kennedy Cochran had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Patriots (0-1) and Emily Carte chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Legg scored 10 points for Midland Trail.

  • SUMMERS 61, JAMES MONROE 47: Summers County had four players in double figures in winning at James Monroe.
  • Tyra Mynes led the scoring with 18 points, Avery Pivont added 12 points and 10 rebounds, Brandy Morrison contributed 11 points and 14 rebounds and Hayley Shrewsbury had 10 points as Summers improved to 2-0.
