Girls roundup: Ward tallies 40 in GW win vs. Nitro

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rachel Ward erupted for a career-high 40 points, including seven buckets from behind the 3-point arc, as George Washington rolled to a 88-64 home win over Nitro in girls basketball Tuesday.

Kelli Jo Harrison poured in 27 points and 14 rebounds as the Patriots (2-1) held a 47-31 halftime lead.

The Wildcats (3-3) had four players in double digits, including Kelli Douglas (15), Halie Miller (13), Savannah Shamblin (12) and Melissa Belcher (12).

  • CAPITAL 68, RIVERSIDE 43: Khadijah Lee recorded 18 points as Capital cruised past Riverside.
  • Keke Walker added 17 for the Cougars (3-1). Rachael Mills pumped in 16 points for the Warriors (2-4), while Brittany Wood chipped in 14.

  • SISSONVILLE 57, RIPLEY 32: Madison Jones scored 12 of her 14 points from beyond the 3-point arc to help lead Sissonville (3-2) to the win.
  • Karli Pinkerton scored a game-high 21 points for the Indians while Ripley's Sarah Williams led the Vikings (0-5) with 11 points.

  • HOOVER 66, VAN 8: Herbert Hoover ran out to a 26-2 advantage after the first period and never looked back at the Sherman Holiday Tournament.
  • Jordan Marshall scored 12 points and Bethany Romine 11 for the Huskies (4-1), who will play the Sherman-Liberty Raleigh winner for the championship at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Stevie White had three points for the Bulldogs.

  • PRINCETON 68, PIKEVIEW 54: Mckenzie Akers exploded for 35 points as Princeton cruised to a home win. Marissa Mullins also chipped in 19 for the Tigers. Hope Nester led PikeView with 15 points.
  • SHERMAN 58, LIBERTY 37: Three players scored in double figures to lead Sherman to the road victory.
  • Jordan Lewis led the Tide (3-2) with 18 points and Sarah Massey added 17 and Lacey Pettry finished with 11. Jasmine Law scored 14 points to lead Liberty (0-6) with Stacey Williams pitching in with 10 points.

  • LOGAN 51, TOLSIA 41: Monica Mitchell posted a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds as Logan defeated Tolsia at home.
  • Shayna Gore contributed 10 points for the Wildcats (4-2). Savannah Winnett and Jordan Presley both tallied 14 points for the Rebels (3-2).
