Roundup: Tiffin tops W.Va. State women

Jasmine Blanton scored 20 points and Janelle Williams had 12 points and 12 rebounds, but West Virginia State fell 60-53 in overtime to Tiffin (Ohio) on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets (3-5) shot 43.8 percent to 31.5 percent for Tiffin and enjoyed a 51-38 rebounding advantage, but turnovers allowed the home team 25 more field-goal attempts.

    GIRLS BASKETBALL: University, Westside and Huntington St. Joseph hold down the top spots in the latest girls basketball poll released by the state coaches association.

    University climbed three spots to claim the top spot in Class AAA and is followed by Greenbrier East and former No. 1 Morgantown. Princeton and John Marshall round out the top five. George Washington is seventh.

    In Class AA, the top three remain unchanged with Bridgeport and Nicholas County following No. 1 Westside. Clay County and Robert C. Byrd completed the top five.

    The top three also remained the same in Class A as St. Joseph, St. Marys and Wheeling Central reside atop the rankings. Clay-Battelle and Parkersburg Catholic are Nos. 4-5, respectively, with Valley Fayette checking in at No. 9 and Buffalo at No. 10.
