Boys roundup: Dawson leads Hurricane past Riverside 63-52

Trey Dawson had a game-high 19 points as host Hurricane defeated Riverside 63-52 in boys high school basketball Friday night.

 

Rasaan Harris and Ace Estep scored 14 points apiece for the Redskins (8-2).

Tyus Wood led the way with 14 points for the Warriors (5-6) while Josh Butcher added 13 and Nick Light 12.

  • LOGAN 66, WESTSIDE 55: A.J. Reynolds scored a team-best 19 points as Logan (3-6) won at home. Brynden Street chipped in 14 points and Zach Minnick had 10.
  • Justin Cogar led all scorers with 27 points for Westside.

  • BLUEFIELD 75, WYOMING EAST 56: Anthony Eades exploded for 26 points as Class AA No. 2 Bluefield earned a road win.
  • Lykel Collier added 23 points for the Beavers (6-1). For the No. 5 Warriors (7-2), Austin Canada tallied 17 points and Josh Tunstalle and Christian Hedinger each had 10.

  •   SOUTH 90, WHEELING PARK 77: Wes Mitchem amassed 30 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in leading Parkersburg South past visiting Wheeling Park.
  • Doug Dennis added 23 points and Dylon Rippeto had 13 for South (8-2). For Wheeling Park, Trenton Smith had 23 points, Ryan Reinbeau 18 and Luke Saseen 11.

  • CLAY 57, SHERMAN 50: Clay County held a 20-11 advantage in the fourth quarter as it rallied to win a road game. Chris Cole scored 22 points to lead the Panthers while Michael Shamblin added 14.
  • Cody Muncy paced all scorers with 25 points and Corey Smith scored 12 for Sherman (5-4).

  • EAST HARDY 74, POCAHONTAS 38: Shawn Skovron recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds as East Hardy posted a home victory.
  • Tyler Mongold led East Hardy (5-5) with 18 points and Levi Beck chipped in 15. Cary Robertson scored 12 points for the Warriors (1-5).

  • LIBERTY 54, NICHOLAS 48: Levi Cook grabbed 12 rebounds and scored a game-high 27 points to help lead Liberty Raleigh to a road win in Summersville.
  • Austin Lyons also hit double digits in scoring for the Raiders (6-2), finishing with 13 points.

    Jared Tharp was Nicholas County's leading scorer with 18 points while Eric Peyatt tallied 14 for the Grizzlies (6-3).

  • ROANE 71, WIRT 68: Jacob Neal scored 25 points and host Roane County held off a late Wirt County rally for a win. Tyler Harper pitched in with 20 points for the Class AA No. 6 Raiders (10-2).
  • Kalob Bell scored 25 points to lead the Tigers (2-7), followed by Austin McVey with 15 and Dustin Garner 12.

  • RITCHIE COUNTY 50, RAVENSWOOD 38: Ritchie County held a 21-9 advantage in the third quarter en route to a road win. Andrew Davis scored 13 points to lead the Rebels while D.J. Burgess scored 11.
  • Heath Burgess scored 14 points for Ravenswood.

  • PIPESTEM 52, CROSS LANES 42: Aleks Lanes scored 22 points and Austin Teyton had 21 to lead visiting Pipestem Christian (11-1) to the win against Cross Lanes Christian. For Cross Lanes (6-8), Tyler Corbin had a team-high 16 points while Grant Humphrey chipped in with 12.
  • TEAYS VALLEY 67, CALVARY 35: Elias Beacom netted 22 points and Zack Moore had 20 for Teays Valley Christian (11-3). Trent Spears contributed 15 points for host Calvary Baptist (10-2) while Michael Salmon had 12.
  • ELK VALLEY 54, GRACE 48: Daniel Beverly posted 24 points as Elk Valley Christian downed visiting Grace Christian.
  • Try Suttle added 18 for Elk Valley (3-6). Matt Miller led Grace (1-7) with 14 points.
