Prep roundup: Parkersburg boys edge Nitro in overtime

Trevor Britton had a team-high 17 points as visiting Parkersburg clipped Nitro 58-57 in overtime Saturday night in boys high school basketball.

Ben Umpleby scored 14 points and Braeden Cabill finished with 11 for the Big Reds (4-7). For Nitro (5-5), Angelo Sirianni was the game's leading scorer with 19 points. Hunter Ferrari was also in double figures for the Wildcats with 11 points.

  • GW 48, ST. ALBANS 31: Luke Eddy dropped in 18 points as Class AAA-ranked George Washington won at St. Albans.
  • Freshman Cameron Hoston added eight points for the Patriots (7-3).

    For the Red Dragons (4-5), Quamise Carter and Tanner Aliff each had six points. Top scorer Nathan McNeil was held to three points, more than 11 under his average, and freshman Thaddeus Moss returned after missing six games with an injured ankle and scored two points.

  • HUNTINGTON 76, CAPITAL 69: Shaquan Miller and Arick Nicks scored 24 points apiece as Huntington pulled out a win at home. Chancelor Wooding contributed 15 points for the Highlanders (8-2). Carrington Morris poured in a game-best 32 points for Capital (5-7) and Austin Coleman tossed in 16.
  • CHAPMANVILLE 58, SISSONVILLE 46: Mike Hurst scored 14 of his 16 points in the final quarter for Chapmanville, including a 9-of-9 effort at the foul line. Kenny Plumley scored a team-high 20 points for the Tigers (6-4), while Mackenzie Martin added 15 with 12 rebounds. For the Indians (4-7), Zach Null and Anthony Bess tallied 20 and 13 points, respectively.
  • SOUTH CHARLESTON 67, RIPLEY 43: Devon Harris poured in 21 points as Class AAA No. 3 South Charleston cruised to a home win.
  • A.D. Cunningham contributed 20 points for the Black Eagles (9-1). Kade Harrison tallied a team-high 18 points for Ripley.

  • CATHOLIC 61, GILMER 44: Charleston Catholic jumped out to a 29-14 halftime lead en route to a road win. Keifer Hovorka scored 13 points for the Class A No. 2 Fighting Irish (7-1), while Garret McCarty chipped in 12. Anthony Aviles had 14 points for Gilmer County (6-4).
  • LOGAN 47, POINT PLEASANT 40: C.J. Williams had 13 points and A.J. Reynolds finished with 11 to help push visiting Logan (4-6) post Point Pleasant. For the Big Blacks (1-8), Dillon McCarty scored a game-high 14 points.
  • WEBSTER COUNTY 57, RAVENSWOOD 43: Brett Morris scored 20 points and Hunter Given 15 to pace the state-ranked Highlanders (7-1). For the Red Devils (2-7), Jake Martin had 19 points and Isaac Crow 11 rebounds.
  • CROSS LANES 55, WOOD COUNTY 29: Grant Humphrey netted 16 points as Cross Lanes Christian won on the road. Josh Dolan also contributed 10 points for Cross Lanes (7-8). Jamie Arnold paced Wood County Christian (5-9) with seven points.
  • MORGANTOWN CHRISTIAN 69, ELK VALLEY 57: Ryan Sargent scored 19 points followed by Isaac Jarvis with 16 and Caleb Beckner with 12 as Morgantown Christian Academy (8-1) won at home. Trey Suttle paced Elk Valley Christian with 22 points while Jordan Elkins added 17 and Daniel Beverly 12.

  • MOUNT VIEW 91, VAN 41: Maurice Brown scored 20 points to lead visiting Mount View (6-3) past Van. For the Bulldogs, Brandon Elswick scored 19 points.

  • POCAHONTAS 43, CATHOLIC 37: Bobbie McNabb and Tristan Day each had 10 points as host Pocahontas County defeated Charleston Catholic.
  • Olivia Workman grabbed 10 rebounds for the Warriors (9-4), who are ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press Class A poll.

    For Charleston Catholic (4-7), Samantha Fletcher donated 11 points and 10 rebounds and Anna Whelan had 11 points and five assists.

  • WINFIELD 57, LOGAN 55: Morgan Eggleton erupted for 22 points and Mara Rhoades chipped in 11 as Winfield (7-4) edged visiting Logan. Monica Mitchell paced the Wildcats (7-3) with 18 points.
  • SOUTH 76, SHADYSIDE 72, OT: Freshman Taryn McCutcheon turned in a triple-double and scored all nine of her team's points in overtime Saturday afternoon to lead visiting Parkersburg South to a double-OT win at Shadyside (Ohio).
  • McCutcheon had 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Patriots (6-5) and Keya Bartlett added 19 points. For the Tigers (6-6), Haley Holenka scored 25 points and Karli Bonar 23.

  • MINGO 82, WAYNE 37: Mingo Central cruised past visiting Wayne as 16 different Miners scored points in the lopsided victory. Ashley Curry led Mingo with 19 points, while Taylor Bartram was the Pioneers' leading scorer with 13 points.
  • TUG VALLEY 59, GREATER BECKLEY 13: Whitney Evans-Kirk had 22 points while Hannah Armstrong and Amber Linville each registered double-doubles to lead Tug Valley. Armstrong finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds while Linville had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers (7-1). For Greater Beckley (1-10), Allie Warden had nine points and six rebounds.
  • SISSONVILLE 47, CHAPMANVILLE 32: Sissonville outscored Chapmanville 35-17 in the second half as the Class AA No. 9 Indians earned a home win. Karli Pinkerton netted 19 points for Sissonville (9-2) while Madison Jones chipped in 15. Kristin Desrocher led Chapmanville with 10 points.
  • NITRO 55, POCA 34: Savannah Shamblin exploded for 25 points for visiting Nitro (6-5). Paula Ord netted 13 points for Poca (4-8).
  • BUFFALO 70, VAN 19: Chelsey Parkins had 16 points and 16 rebounds to pace the host Bison (7-4). Paige Roush led Buffalo with 18 points, Olivia Dunn scored 12 and Tiffany Bailey 11. For the Bulldogs, Stevie White tallied 12 points.
  • GREENBRIER EAST 75, WASHINGTON 57: Bianca Andre' led the way with 20 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots as unbeaten host Greenbrier East stopped the seven-game winning streak of the Patriots (8-5). Also for the Spartans (9-0), Chaunte McDowell had 20 points, Elizabeth Romeo 15 and Chloe Honaker 12. For Washington, Jackie Hess scored 15 points and Kylie Nelson 10.
  • PIKEVIEW 45, SCOTT 35: Lyndsey Hatfield scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for PikeView. Hope Nester finished with 11 points, five assists and five steals while Courtney White had four points to go with 19 rebounds for the Panthers (5-5). Jaimee Dotson had 15 points and Andrea Rankin scored 11 for Scott (5-5).
  • CROSS LANES 43, WOOD COUNTY 31: Laura Jones scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Cross Lanes Christian picked up a win on the road. Courtney Kendrick added 14 points for the Warriors (10-4). Adria Herridge and Rachel Ruble each scored eight points for Wood County Christian.

  • MOUNT VIEW 47, VAN 7: Keisha Johnson finished with 11 points for Mount View (6-2), which held Van to zero points in the first quarter and just two in the first half.
