Roundup: Glenville State men rally past W.Va. State 74-71

West Virginia State led Glenville State 38-30 at halftime but could not hold on to the lead as the Pioneers fought back to beat the visiting Yellow Jackets 74-71 Saturday in Glenville.

Lamar Mallory led Glenville (9-6, 5-5 West Virginia Conference) with 22 points and 15 rebounds (both game-highs) while Kevin Gray helped the Pioneers' cause with 15 points.

For State (6-10, 4-7), Jalen Walker scored 21 points and Anton Hutchins finished with 11. Raymon Austin led the Yellow Jackets with six rebounds while Walker led WVSU with three assists.

  • GLENVILLE 82, W.VA. STATE 75: Glenville's women's basketball team won its eighth consecutive game and moved into first place in the West Virginia Conference with the win against West Virginia State (4-10, 4-7 WVC).
  • The Pioneers (14-2, 9-1 WVC) were led by 21 point from Keyona Simmons while  Kenyell Goodson and Ginny Mills each finished with 12 points for Glenville.

    For State, India Taste and Brittany Holestien each scored 17 points to lead the Yellow Jackets.

  • TECH WOMEN LOSE: Shardai Morrison-Fountain scored nine of her 24 points in overtime and nailed a pair of free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining Saturday as Rio Grande upended visiting WVU Tech 84-79.

    The Red Storm (6-13) also got a game-high 25 points and four steals from Kate Hammond, while Tinesha Taylor added 12 points off the bench. Mashya White poured in 25 points for the Golden Bears (9-10) while Courtney Sturdivant added 17 points and 11 boards.
