Roundup: Tug Valley boys down Riverside

Tug Valley held a 21-11 advantage in the fourth quarter as the Panthers beat Riverside 74-65 at the Hatfield/McCoy Shootout in Williamson on Saturday.

Austin Brewer led all scorers with 25 points for Tug followed by Mikey Newsome with 18, Aaron Muncy with 14, and Thomas Baisden with 11.

Tyus Wood tallied 22 for Riverside while Marcus Reed had 17 and Tim Womack 11.

Girls basketball

  • SA 36, NITRO 32: Brenna Propst scored 15 points as visiting St. Albans (6-7) rallied past Nitro.
  • The Wildcats (7-7) led 11-1 after the first quarter, but managed only two points in the second. Savannah Shamblin led Nitro with 18 points.

    Other sports

    MU WOMEN: The Marshall women's basketball team blew a halftime lead and fell 71-63 to Houston on Sunday in Huntington.

    Porshe Landry led the Cougars (8-8 overall, 2-1 Conference USA) with 24 points.

    Erica Woods and Norrisha Victrum had 14 points apiece for Marshall (6-11, 0-4) while Suporia Dickens pulled down 17 rebounds.

  • WVU SPORTS: The wrestling team dropped a 25-14 decision at No. 14 Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon.

  • The gymnastics team finished third at a quad meet at Utah on Saturday night. No. 15 Utah scored 196.95 in winning the meet while No. 23 Oregon finished with 195.95. WVU scored 192.125 and No. 20 Southern Utah finished at 191.05.
