Roundup: Cowden fires in 24 points for UC women

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Jessi Cowden hit 6-of-10 shots from 3-point range en route to 24 points to lead homestanding Charleston past Seton Hill 83-67 on Monday in West Virginia Conference women's basketball.

The Golden Eagles (8-7 overall, 5-6 WVC) hit 24-of-26 foul shots as a team.

Paige Alviani scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Griffins (10-8, 7-5).

  • STATE WOMEN FALL: Pitt-Johnstown used a 31-6 run to close out the first half as the Mountain Cats picked up a 75-64 conference road women's basketball win Monday against West Virginia State.

    Kaitlynn Fratz had a career-high with 34 points, including 16 from the free-throw stripe, to lead the Cats (9-7, West Virginia Conference 7-6), while Rachel Johnson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

    Kashauna Cook led West Virginia State (4-11, WVC 4-8) with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jordan Brock had 15 points and Maria Femia added 11 points for the Yellow Jackets.

  • FLINCHUM HONORED: Shepherd's Gabby Flinchum has earned West Virginia Conference women's basketball player of the week honors, guiding the Rams to a 3-0 week with wins over Wheeling Jesuit, Seton Hill and Fairmont State.

    For the week, Flinchum averaged 14.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.6 blocks per game.
