Area roundup: State cashes in on OV turnovers

West Virginia State forced 26 Ohio Valley turnovers on its way to a 90-66 win against the visiting Fighting Scots.

The win snapped a a four-game losing streak for State dating back to Jan. 10.

Anton Hutchins led the Yellow Jackets (6-11, 4-8 West Virignia Conference) with 15 points while Brandon Ross chipped in with 14 points and Jalen Walker scored 13. David Ford led State with seven rebounds.

Ashton Brown led Ohio Valley (3-14, 2-9) with 15 points.

The Yellow Jackets next play Monday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit.

  • UC WOMEN WIN: Nichole Perry and Chelsea Brumby each scored 14 points to lead the University of Charleston to an 84-59 women's basketball win Thursday against visiting Wheeling Jesuit. UC (9-7, 6-6 West Virginia Conference) opened up a 43-35 lead at halftime.

    Also hitting double figures in scoring for Charleston were Jessi Cowden, who finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while LeAnne Ross scored 10 points. For Wheeling Jesuit (5-11, 2-10 WVC), Breanna Butler and Jaila Bryant each scored 13 points.
