Roundup: SSAC seeks boys tourney memorabilia
The SSAC is seeking memorabilia from schools no longer in existence that have competed in past state boys basketball tournaments.
The SSAC is celebrating the 100th boys basketball state tournament, with a banquet on March 12 preceding the tournament, which runs from March 13-16 at the Charleston Civic Center.
"We are seeking memorabilia from all schools who have participated in past tournaments,'' the SSAC's Ray Londeree said, "but are hopeful we can include materials from schools who have been consolidated into current schools or are no longer in existence.''
Memorabilia would include trophies, plaques, balls, school uniforms, jerseys, pennants, programs, photos, etc. Londeree can be contacted at the SSAC office in Parkersburg by calling 304-485-5494.
WRESTLING TOURNEYS: Kanawha Valley wrestling teams are scheduled to be competing on three different fronts today in various tournaments.
George Washington is one of 15 teams set to participate in the second day of the weekend West Virginia Duals at Parkersburg High School. Weigh-ins are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today.
Buffalo, Poca, Sissonville and Logan will compete in the Bob Stover Classic at Clay County, while St. Albans is scheduled to participate in the Bob Zide Rumble at Williamstown.
WVU BASEBALL: West Virginia University announced Friday that ticket packages for the Mountaineers' 10 regular-season home games at Appalachian Power Park will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday.
The 10-game packages begin at $70 for reserved seating and $50 for general admission. Single-game prices will be announced at a later date. Tickets can be purchased through the West Virginia Power box office by calling 304-344-2287.
MU-WVU TENNIS: Marshall will travel to Morgantown to play a match against West Virginia at 1 p.m. today. The Herd (2-0) has beaten the Mountaineers (0-1) the previous 11 times the two schools have met, including four 7-0 sweeps. Marshall has wins against Morehead State and Eastern Michigan so far this season while WVU lost to Ohio State in its one match.
NCAA GYMNASTICS: Tickets for the NCAA gymnastics regional championships in Morgantown, scheduled for April 6 at the WVU Coliseum, are now on sale through the Mountaineer Ticket Office. Tickets are $12 when purchased in advance online at wvugame.com or by calling the ticket office. Tickets will be available at the door for $15.
COACHING CLASS: An ASEP coaching class will be held Feb. 21, 22 and 24 at Huntington High School for those interested in coaching a secondary school sport. Register at wvssac.org.
LOCAL GYMNASTICS: Cross Lanes' Konnor McClain recently was named to the USA Gymnastics TOPS Diamond Team. Seven-year-old McClain was one of 40 gymnasts selected for the team and will travel to the Olympic Training site in Houston.
