For the first time since 1998, the West Virginia women's tennis team defeated Marshall, downing the Thundering Herd 4-3.Hailey Barrett and Ikttesh Chahal won 8-4 over the Thundering Herd's Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova and Emily Mathis and Audrey Wooland scored an 8-2 win over Kara Kucin and Ellie Ball in doubles. Barrett, Chahal and Mathis also scored singles wins for WVU.

Burnett also won the 100 free and 500 free with times of 52.25 and 4:59.82, respectively. n In its first Big 12 home dual match in program history, the West Virginia wrestling squad was defeated by Iowa State 30-3 at the WVU Coliseum. The lone win for the Mountaineers came at 141 pounds, as No. 13 Nathan Pennesi scored a 5-1 decision win over No. 19 Luke Goettl.
On the first day of competition at the Penn State National Invitational, West Virginia's Heather Adams recorded a weight throw of 18.04 meters and broke her own school record Friday in State College, Pa. Adams finished fifth in the competition and now owns four of the top five records in Mountaineer history in the weight throw.
nnMU SOFTBALL: Following a five-day online fan vote, the Marshall softball All-Anniversary team was revealed Friday at the team's second annual Diamond Club Dinner.
Fans voted for a 12-team roster for the All-Anniversary team, which is part of Marshall's celebration for the 20th year of the softball program. The following players received the highest votes totals per position: Rachel Folden (catcher); Vanessa Clarkson, Nichole Corrigan, Alianna Telles and Jessica Williams (infield); Joscelyn Bitner, Jeanne Noble and Amanda Williams (outfield); Sierra Davenport and Caitlyn Jackson (utility); and Sara Gulla and Randi Nielson (pitcher).
