Roundup: Snyder leads Fairmont State women past UC

Former Sissonville star Kaitlin Snyder scored 21 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and handed out nine assists while playing all 40 minutes to lead Fairmont State to an 83-68 win against the University of Charleston at Joe Retton Arena in Fairmont.

The Falcons (13-6, 11-3 West Virginia Conference) also had received 16 points from Tiffany Nicholson, 12 apiece from Briana Welch and Emily Lohr, and 11 from Hailey Gunnoe.

For UC (10-8, 7-8 WVC), Chelsea Brumby scored 14 points while Jessi Cowden grabbed  11 rebounds. LeAnne Ross (11), Tianni Kelly (10) and Kayla Dozier (10) also scored in double figures for the Golden Eagles.

  • STATE HOOPS: The West Virginia State's women's basketball team outscored West Liberty 46-31 in the second half and pulled out a 73-70 upset win over the Hilltoppers Thursday night at Fleming Hall in Institute.

    Senior guard Jasmine Blanton poured in a game-high 27 points for the Yellow Jackets (7-11 overall, 7-8 WVC), who avenged a 71-64 loss at West Liberty in December. Blanton hit 13 of 17 free throws and shot 7 of 14 from the floor.

    Also for State, Asia Greenleaf scored 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had five blocks, Jordan Brock scored 14 and India Taste added 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

    West Liberty (12-6, 10-4) was led by Hillary Southworth's 26 points. Emily Blevins added 15 and Meghan Wiseman scored 11.

  • MU WOMEN LOSE: Kyani Edwards posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards as East Carolina downed the Marshall women's basketball team 54-47 in Greenville, N.C.

    Erica Woods had 14 points for the Thundering Herd (6-13), which remains winless in conference action.

  • WVU GYMNASTICS: The West Virginia Univeristy gymnastics team will open its home season with its first-ever Big 12 meet when the Mountaineers host No. 2 Oklahoma, Western Michigan and William & Mary at the Coliseum at 7 p.m. today.

    The meet is a "Dollar Day" event with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Cola products available for $1.
