Prep basketball roundup: Greenbrier East girls cruise past SA
Bianca Andre' scored 21 points to lead Greenbrier East past St. Albans 65-39 in the girls division of the Big Atlantic Classic at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center in Beckley on Thursday.
The Spartans (12-0), the top-ranked team in the Associated Press poll for four straight weeks, will take on University at approximately 5:40 p.m. Saturday in the co-championship game. The Red Dragons (8-8) will face Westside at 9 a.m. Saturday in the consolation.
Chaunte McDowell added 13 points and five assists for East, which scored 26 points off SA's 25 turnovers. The Red Dragons led 20-18 early in the opening half, but the Spartans went on a 14-2 run to end the second period and take a 32-22 lead.
SA's Breanna Propst turned in 23 points, 10 rebounds and two steals and Katelyn Fields added eight points.
Haeley Moore led all scorers with 21 points for the Generals (8-9), while Morgan Eggleton tallied 16.
Savannah Shamblin led the Wildcats (8-10) with 13 points.
Harley Hutchins led Poca (4-12) with 15 points.
Emily Harden added 12 points for the Knights (11-5). Abby Watson tallied a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Redskins (5-13), while Audrey Barber had 12 points.
Olivia Hill led the Lions with 12 points.
Andrea Porter scored 18 points to lead Point Pleasant (6-12).
For Sherman (6-10), Jordan Lewis had 14 points.
For the Bulldogs (0-11), Holly Adkins had nine points.
Adreana Vance's 22 points led the way for Tug Valley (8-7).
Anthony Mahairas chipped in 16 points for Cross Lanes (14-9), while Grant Humphrey had 15. Brandon Elswick scored 19 points for the Bulldogs (3-10).
