Roundup: Charleston, W.Va. State on road tonight

The West Virginia State men's basketball team will begin a four-game road trip tonight at Alderson-Broaddus with a 7:30 p.m. tip.

The Yellow Jackets (9-14 overall, 6-11 West Virginia Conference) lost their last outing to Fairmont State after finally notching back-to-back wins for the first time all season with victories over Bluefield State and Urbana.

Charleston is also coming off a loss after falling to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday and is now faced with a trip to West Liberty tonight for a 7:30 start.

UC (15-6, 11-6) handed the No. 3 Hilltoppers their only loss of the season on Jan. 14, yet the Golden Eagles have gone just 3-4 since.

  • MU SPORTS: The Marshall women's basketball team shot just 29.7 percent from the floor, including 18.2 percent from 3-point range, as it fell 67-50 at Southern Methodist on Sunday.

    Chukwuka Ezeigbo and Suporia Dickens each had 12 points to lead the Thundering Herd (7-15 overall, 1-8 Conference USA) while Erica Woods added 10.

    Keena Mays led all scorers with 17 points for SMU (18-4, 9-0) and Akil Simpson chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

  • Alyssa Cook hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the eighth inning as the Marshall softball team came away with a 2-1 win over Florida Atlantic on Sunday at the USF-Demarini Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
  • Andi Williamson struck out eight will yielding just four hits and one run for the Herd (2-3).
