COLLEGE BASEBALL: West Virginia and Marshall both open their baseball seasons today.
The Mountaineers start a three-game series at North Florida while the Thundering Herd will play three this weekend at Old Dominion.
Randy Mazey will make his debut in the dugout as West Virginia's coach and has tabbed Corey Walter as the opening-day starter, with former Bridgeport standout Harrison Musgrave scheduled start on the mound for WVU on Saturday and Dan Dierdorff schedule to start Sunday's game.
For the Herd, right-hander Dean Ali will start today's game against Old Dominion with Aaron Blair penciled in for Saturday and Wayland Moore for Sunday.
West Virginia State opens its season Monday at home against Pitt Johnstown with coach Cal Bailey going for career win No. 1,000. The University of Charleston starts its season on Feb. 23 at California University of Pennsylvania.
AAU HOOPS: The West Virginia Reign AAU basketball club will conduct tryouts for boys and girls in grades 4 through 11 and unsigned high school seniors. BOWLING Galaxy Lanes will host multiple bowling tournaments this weekend and next weekend.
Scratch singles, with a $40 entry fee, will be Saturday at 12:45 p.m. with youth/adult doubles scheduled for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with a $30 entry fee.
