The Marshall baseball team led twice in the early going but ultimately fell to host Charlotte 7-3 Monday at Hayes Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
Freshman starting pitcher Michael Taylor (0-1) suffered the loss for Marshall (3-3) despite allowing only one earned run - three total - in 22/3 innings. Taylor struck out two and walked three.
Charlotte starter Brock Hudgens (1-0) lasted five innings to get the win. Hudgens struck out five, walked two and gave up five hits.
Andrew Dundon went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Herd.

The Italy native set her second WVU small-bore record in three weeks and won the discipline title with a 595 (199 prone, 199 standing, 197 kneeling) score in the open relay and a 101.4 in the final for a 696.4 mark Saturday. She is the fourth different Mountaineer to win the GARC small-bore title.
