Roundup: Youth basketball clinic set for Saturday at Civic Center

There will be a free Frontier Communications Youth Basketball Clinic at the Charleston Civic Center on Saturday during the West Virginia Conference basketball tournament.

The clinic is open to boys and girls in fifth through eighth grade and will feature guest coaches Steve Cox, Gil Heasley, Bill Lilly, Steve Tierney and Joe Mazzulla.

The clinic will being at 11 a.m. and last until 1 p.m. in the main area of the Civic Center. For more information contact Barry Blizzard at 304-487-6298 or wv...@citlink.net.

  • D2 WRESTLING: Former Herbert Hoover standout Derrick Williams, now at West Liberty University, placed fourth in the 184-pound weight class at the Division II Super Regional meet at Kutztown University to qualify for the NCAA Division II national tournament starting on March 8 in Birmingham, Ala.

    The Hilltoppers will take two other wrestlers to the tournament. Mike Carpenter, a former heavyweight state champion at Liberty Raleigh, and Art Hobley also qualified for the event.
