Roundup: SC-Upstate rallies past Marshall; WVU baseball comes up short against FAU

Tyler Lesch roped an RBI single with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth inning as South Carolina Upstate earned a 6-5 baseball win over Marshall on Sunday.

Isaac Ballou and Andrew Dundon each had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Thundering Herd (3-7).

  • Marshall committed 21 turnovers and attempted just two free throws as it fell 75-51 at home to Central Florida on Sunday. Briahanna Jackson led all scorers with 19 points for the Golden Knights (13-16 overall, 7-8 Conference USA).
  • Leandra King and Orlandria Williams each scored 11 points for Marshall (9-19, 3-12).

  • WVU SPORTS: Hope Sloanhoffer scored 39.225 points and won her first all-around title of the year as the No. 16 West Virginia gymnastics team finished second with 196.375 points in a quad meet in Morgantown on Sunday.

    No. 13 Denver won the meet with a score of 196.8, while George Washington and Temple finished third and fourth, respectively.

  • A late two-run rally fell a run short as the West Virginia baseball team dropped a 6-5 decision to Florida Atlantic on Sunday at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Matt Frazer, Taylor Munden and Jacob Rice each had a pair of hits for the Mountaineers.
  • The West Virginia swimming and diving team finished competition at the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, on Saturday with the women's team finishing second and the men third.
  • Mandie Nugent added to Rachael Burnett's three-win day by claiming a title in the 200-yard butterfly. Christopher Brill had the highest men's individual finish with a second-place in the 200 breastsroke.

  • STATE BASEBALL LOSES: North Greenville piled up seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in earning an 11-4 win over West Virginia State at Tigerville, S.C. on Saturday. Noah Blackhurst had three hits to lead the Yellow Jackets (2-7).
