Roundup: Frazer's homer lifts WVU baseball to win

A two-run home run in the third inning by Matt Frazer led the West Virginia baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Kentucky in the Mountaineers' home opener Tuesday at Hawley Field in Morgantown.

Ryan Tuntland led the Mountaineers (5-6), going 3 for 4 with a double while Bobby Boyd had a pair of singles. Ryan Hostrander earned the win, allowing two hits in 11/3 innings.

  • WVU's Hope Sloanhoffer has been named the Big 12 gymnast of the week, while Alaska Richardson has been named the Big 12 event specialist of the week for the Mountaineers.
  •  Sloanhoffer is coming off her first all-around win of the season, as she tallied 39.225 Saturday against No. 13 Denver, George Washington and Temple. Sloanhoffer also paced the team on beam and finished second overall with a season-high 9.875 mark.

    Richardson secured two top-three finishes Sunday, as she tied for the vault win with a 9.875 and tied for third place on floor with a 9.9. She has now scored 9.9 or better on floor four times this season and has not scored below 9.8 on vault all year.
