St. Marys wins girls opener over Tygarts Valley 52-24

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- No. 3 seed St. Marys used a stifling defense to dispose of No. 6 Tygarts Valley 52-24 in the Class A opener of the girls basketball state tournament Wednesday morning at the Civic Center.

Tygarts Valley (17-8) was limited to 20.9 percent shooting (9 for 43) and committed 34 turnovers.

Six-foot senior Audra Clark powered St. Marys (24-1) offensively with 28 points and shared game-high rebounding honors with 6-4 junior Kendra Walker, each snagging 11 boards.

Senior Shanda Howell led Tygarts Valley with seven points.
