No. 1 West Liberty and Fairmont State each begin play in the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament today.
The Hilltoppers, the top seed and host of the Atlantic Regional round of the tournament, face eighth-seeded Bowie State at 6 p.m. while No. 4 seed Fairmont State plays No. 5 Livingstone (N.C.) at 8:30 p.m. The winners of those games will play Sunday in the semifinals.
The other side of the bracket features No. 2 Winston-Salem State playing No. 7 Slippery Rock (Pa.) and No. 3 Indiana (Pa.) taking on No 6. East Stroudsburg (Pa.).
The regional championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
FAIRMONT WOMEN OUSTED: Gannon grabbed a big lead early and never looked back as it defeated Fairmont State 66-40 in the first round of the NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament at the Hammermill Center in Erie, Pa.
Senior Kaitlin Snyder closer her career as a Falcons with 10 points. She finished with 2,056 career points, a school record. Fairmont State (23-10) also got 12 points, six rebounds and four steals from former North Marion standout Hailey Garrett. Gannon was led by Bettie Blake with 15 points and Mollie Sebald with 12 points.
