Prep roundup: SC's Burdette hurls no-hitter against Nitro

Allie Burdette pitched a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts with just one walk as visiting South Charleston defeated Nitro 1-0 Wednesday in high school softball.

Mereditch Cain had a double for the Black Eagles, who were held to just four hits by Nitro pitcher Amber Hughes.

  • RIPLEY 12, CAPITAL 0: Ashley Mellinger tripled in a run as Ripley used an 11-run first inning to force a three-inning mercy-rule win on the road. Darby Petersen struck out three for the Vikings (3-0) and kept the Cougars (0-3) hitless.
  • SCOTT 7, SHERMAN 0: Allyson Johnson went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs to help lead visiting Scott past Sherman. For the Tide, Jordan Lewis went 1 for 3 with a double.
  • RIVERSIDE 10, PRINCETON 0: Riverside pitcher Kaylee Wolfe had eight strikeouts, allowed one hit and went 1 for 2 with two RBIs to lead Riverside to the win against visiting Princeton. Brittany Moore had the one hit, a double, for the Tigers. For Riverside, Felicia Burton went 3 for 3 with a triple.
  • WINFIELD 12, PARKERSBURG 3: Ally Funk went 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs while Madison Wall went 2 for 3 with three RBIs in Winfield's five-inning win against the visiting Big Reds. For Parkersburg (1-2), Brittany Allison went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs.

  • GW 9, VALLEY 2: Jeff Wong went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Clayton Anderson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs as George Washington improved to 2-0 with a home win. Tanner Sorrells was the winning pitcher for GW. Raeshawn Breckenridge went 2 for 4 for Valley.
  • ST. ALBANS 14, RIVERSIDE 4: Bobby Grishaber doubled and drove in three runs while Dustin Turley and Peter Theodos had two RBIs apiece as St. Albans earned a five-inning mercy-rule win at home. Phoenix Shrewsbury added three hits for the Red Dragons (1-2). Brady Wilkinson went 2 for 3 with a double for the Warriors.
  • POINT PLEASANT 16, RIPLEY 6: Evan Potter went 3 for 4 with a double, homer and four RBIs for the host Big Blacks in a five-inning win. Jacob Gardner rapped out three hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Point (1-1) and Gage Buskirk went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Isaac Koontz had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Vikings (1-2) and Tyler Pittenger doubled in two runs.
  • CLAY 6, LINCOLN COUNTY 3: Alex Burkhamer went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles as Clay County (3-0) picked up a road win.
  • CATHOLIC 12, MAN 2: Nelson McKown and Andy Hoyer each went 2 for 4 while Rocco Wilcox scored three runs and had two RBIs for Charleston Catholic (1-1) in the Irish's win against visiting Man (0-1). Cayce Mullins had a double for the Hillbillies.
