Prep roundup: Wong helps GW knock off Princeton

Jeff Wong gave up four runs on five hits while striking out 10 as George Washington (3-0) downed host Princeton 11-4 Friday in prep baseball.

Wong also contributed at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Connor Moffatt had three hits and drove home three runs and Grant Wooten blasted a homer. For Princeton (1-2), Bryson Allan and Josh Perry each had extra-base hits.

  • VALLEY 11, OAK HILL 1: Druw Bowen scattered four hits and struck out 14 to lead host Valley past Oak Hill in six innings.
  • Bowen surrendered three singles, a triple, one walk and one earned run. Raeshawn Breckenridge went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Greyhounds (4-1), while Cody Winter doubled, homered and knocked in a pair. Valley's Joseph Eckert went 2-for-3 with a round-tripper and two RBIs. Chris Dennler tripled for the Red Devils (0-1).

  • SISSONVILLE 4, WAYNE 1: Sissonville produced three runs in the third inning as the Indians downed visiting Wayne. Jacob Fisher went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Sissonville (3-2). Zach Cassidy had a pair of hits for the Pioneers (1-2).
  • SC 5, SPRING VALLEY 4: South Charleston scored three times in the top of the seventh as the Black Eagles rallied for a road win. Jonathan Pauley smacked a double for the Black Eagles (2-0). Austin Robertson had a double for the Timberwolves (0-1).
  • WINFIELD 8, CABELL MIDLAND 2: Winfield erupted for six runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a home win. Brandon Wright went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Winfield, while Tanner Bailey added a pair of hits. Cody Ballengee went 1 for 2 for the Knights.
  • PARK. SOUTH 2, NITRO 1: Brad Brubaker gave up one run on three hits over 41/3 innings as Parkersburg South edged visiting Nitro. Jordan Braniff had a pair of hits including a double for the Patriots. Solomon Shamblin, Evan Eich and Tyler Barton each had one hit for the Wildcats.
  • TUG VALLEY 13, HANNAN 3: Tug Valley scored five runs in the first and fourth innings as the Panthers won at home.
  • Josh Cassell went 2 for 3 with four RBIs for Tug Valley while David Runyon had a pair of hits. Tyler Jenkins had two hits for Hannan.

  • CHAPMANVILLE 9, POINT 5: Tristan Thompson went 2 for 3 as Chapmanville (2-0) picked up a home win. Alex Somerville and Jacob Gardner each had two hits for Point Pleasant (1-2).
  • LOGAN 11, SCOTT 0: Johnny Morrison and Troy Burgess combined on a two-hit shutout as the visiting Wildcats downed the Skyhawks in their season opener.
  • Morrison fanned 10 in four innings while Burgess whiffed four in three innings. Zach Minnick went 4 for 4 with two homers and five RBIs for Logan while Kyle Harvey drove in two RBIs. Scott dropped to 1-1.

    Thursday's games

  • CROSS LANES SWEEPS: Ian George earned the save in the opening game and the win in the nightcap and Chad Williams drove in five runs in the two games as host Cross Lanes Christian rang up a 14-0, 10-0 doubleheader sweep of debuting Teays Valley Christian.
