Roundup: State, Wheeling Jesuit split twinbill
West Virginia State and Wheeling Jesuit split a baseball doubleheader on Wednesday in Institute with State winning the first game 15-1 and Jesuit taking the second 9-8.
Garrett Kiser went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and eight RBIs in the first game for the Yellow Jackets while Jack Hudson also went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs.
Robbie Davia and Tim Giebel each homered in the second game to lead Wheeling Jesuit.
WVC GOLF: Concord's Stefan Labuschagne was named the West Virginia Conference men's golfer of the year on Wednesday.
Labuschagne joined teammate Evan Muscari on the all-WVC first team while Bluefield State also placed two athletes on the list in Chandler Beavers and Nick Dent. Charleston's Jarrin Smith was also a first-team member as was Shepherd's Zach Weber and Davis & Elkins' Cameron Buist.
Concord coach Will Johnson and Davis & Elkins coach Wally Edgell split the coach of the year honor.
The awards came on the heels of the WVC Southern Regional held at Berry Hills on Tuesday. The Big Blues and Senators tied for the win but Bluefield State owned the tiebreaker. Concord and Charleston finished in a tie for third four strokes back.
MU BASEBALL: Marshall committed three errors and didn't score until the ninth inning as it fell 10-3 at Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. Freshman Travis Myers went 2-for-4 to lead the Thundering Herd (11-17 overall, 1-2 Conference USA).
