Power settles for split at Asheville
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- West Virginia split a pair of games on Friday with host Asheville, winning 11-4 in the completion of Thursday's weather-related suspended game and losing 9-7 in the regularly scheduled game.
Ryan Hafner (1-0) earned the win in relief for West Virginia in the first game, giving up just one hit and no runs over two innings. Josh Smith picked up his first save of the season despite giving up four runs on six hits in three innings.
Josh Bell went 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for the Power (2-7) while Stetson Allie added two hits, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Benjamin Hughes (1-1) took the loss for the Tourists (6-3), allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Tom Murphy went 2 for 3 with a two-run home run for Asheville.
In the nightcap, Asheville scored runs in every inning of the scheduled seven-inning contest to get the win.
Rayan Gonzalez (1-0) recorded the win for the Tourists (6-3) while John Kuchno (0-1) was tabbed with the loss for the Power (2-7). Eric Wood went 2 for 4 for West Virginia, including a solo home run in the seventh.
