Buffalo distance runner Dylan Rich swept the 800-meter and mile races at the Heart of the Bluegrass Classic at the University of Kentucky.
Running against some of Kentucky's best high school runners, Rich ran the mile in 4 minutes, 20.80 seconds, winning by 5.37 seconds. A few hours later, he ran the 800 in 1:57.71, just off his season best but good for a 1.8-second victory.
His points gave Buffalo a 16th-place finish out of 30 schools that scored, which isn't bad considering the rest of the Bison team ran Friday at the Winfield Invitational. Rich just ran in the 4x800 relay that night.
Saturday's races were an audition of sorts for Rich, who is leaning toward running at UK.
WVC TENNIS: The University of Charleston came from behind twice Saturday to edge West Virginia Wesleyan 5-4 and earn a spot in the West Virginia Conference men's tennis tournament championship match.
Bluefield notched a 5-0 win over Shepherd in the other semifinal. UC and Bluefield will meet in the finals at 1 p.m. today at the Schoenbaum Courts/Watt Powell Annex in Charleston.
Nick Bakos, playing at No. 6 singles for UC, clinched the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over Andre Fernandes.
TECH BASEBALL: Marc Culmer went 5 of 8 with eight RBIs as WVU Tech won two games, defeating Ohio Christian 13-1 and then host University of the Cumberlands 6-3.
The Golden Bears (22-25) snapped a nine-game losing streak and tied the school record for wins. They play Cumberlands in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today.
Freshman Tommy Weaver won the opener as he and Jonathan Price combined to throw a three-hitter. In the latter game, Ryan Bailey started the Bears' scoring with a two-out, two-strike, two-RBI single in the second inning.
