Marshall RB Grooms arrested early Sunday
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marshall running back Kevin Grooms, the reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year, was arrested early Sunday morning in Huntington and charged with underage consumption and obstruction.
According to police reports, Grooms, who will turn 21 next month, admitted drinking alcohol but gave a fake name to the officer, which led to the obstruction charge. Grooms was arraigned Sunday afternooon and released on a personal recognizance bond.
Marshall's athletics department said in a statement it was aware of the situation and planned to handle the matter "appropriately and internally."
Last season, Grooms rushed for 737 yards and eight touchdowns.
