Prep roundup: Valley's McGinnis hurls no-hitter with 19 Ks

Valley's Eric McGinnis fired a no-hitter and struck out 19 Buffalo batters to lead the visiting Greyhounds to an 11-0 high school baseball win Wednesday.

McGinnis also went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple, while Todd Coleman went 3 for 3 and Drew Jones went 3 for 5 with a triple for Valley (16-5).

  • LOGAN 4, ST. ALBANS 1: Zack Minnick had a double and Alex Lakatos went 2 for 3 in Logan's win at St. Albans.
  • The Wildcats jumped on the Red Dragons early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the third and kept St. Albans off the scoreboard after allowing one run in the first.

    Softball

  • SC 3, RIPLEY 1: Alli Burdette struck out 13, including the 1,000th of her career, as South Charleston edged Ripley in the Mountain State Athletic Conference consolation game at Hurricane.
  • Burdette, a senior, fanned 13 in holding the Vikings to two hits over seven innings. Emily Bostic drove in two runs for the Black Eagles (17-9). For Ripley (17-8), Ali Cunningham went 2 for 3 with a triple.

  • PARKERSBURG 14, RIVERSIDE 5: Morgan Lanham went 3 for 4 while Taylor Beckley and Brittany Allison had two hits each to lead visiting Parkersburg past Riverside in the Mountain State Athletic Conference ninth-place game.
  • ROANE SWEEPS: Casey Lassiter fired a six-hitter and a two-hitter and fanned a total of 19 to lead host Roane County to an 11-1, 3-1 doubleheader sweep of Wirt County (10-15).
  • In the opener, Kasey Blosser, Cassidy Taylor and Micky Rhodes each had two hits for the Raiders (19-2). In the second game, Taylor went 4 for 4 with a double and Miranda Hall and Beth Hylbert donated two hits apiece.

  • SCOTT 7, SHERMAN 6: Kaila Craddock drew a bases-loaded walk that allowed Brooke Belcher to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for Scott against visiting Sherman.
  • Mackenzie Smith hit a two-run home run for the Tide while Sydney Dangott had a triple and two RBIs for the Skyhawks.
