Herd's Kerns picked as NCAA golf individual
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marshall's Nathan Kerns has been selected individually for the NCAA Division I golf championships, which begin May 14.
Kerns was one of 10 unattached players assigned to the regional at Ohio State's Scarlet course in Columbus. Those individuals will join 13 teams, including top seed New Mexico and incoming Conference USA member North Carolina-Charlotte.
Kerns, a senior from Ironton, Ohio, won the 2012 Ohio Amateur and finished third at the recent C-USA tournament. He led the Thundering Herd to a fifth-place finish in that event, the program's highest in eight seasons in the league.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the national tournament May 28-June 2 at The Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta.
