BECKLEY, W.Va. - Alfredo Brito hit a two-run double off the right-field wall in the bottom of the seventh, rallying Marshall to a 6-5 win over West Virginia Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 2,103 at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
The win gives the Thundering Herd a 2-1 decision over the Mountaineers in the season series.
Marshall (20-31) trailed most of the game before Brito's hit scored Isaac Ballou and Gray Stafford. The Herd trailed 5-3 going into the seventh inning.
Ballou led all Herd batters with three hits, including two doubles, while Nathan Gomez, Eric Escobedo and Brito each recorded two hits and two RBIs.
Ryan Hopkins (4-2) earned the victory in relief for Marshall while Josh King picked up his sixth save. Chris Boster held down the fort with five scoreless innings of relief for the Herd.
West Virginia (30-23) was led offensively by Billy Fleming and Chris Rasky with two hits apiece. Junior right-hander Josh Harlow (0-2) allowed three runs on three hits in 12/3 innings of relief to take the loss.
The Mountaineers will close out the regular season this weekend against Big 12 foe Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. Friday's matchup will be televised by Fox College Sports at 7:30 p.m. Marshall will conclude the regular season with a three-game series at No. 20 Rice this weekend.
