Ex-Pitt running back considering WVU move
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia is already expecting an infusion of talent into its backfield this season from Houston transfer Charles Sims. Now, there could be another in 2014.
Rushel Shell, a former five-star recruit who ran for 641 yards as a backup to Ray Graham as a true freshman at Pitt last season, is considering a transfer to WVU, Ohio State or Kentucky, according to published reports quoting his mother. Wherever he goes, he would have to sit out this season and then would have three years of eligibility remaining.
Shell announced during Pitt's spring drills that he was transferring to UCLA. But in recent weeks he decided not to - his mother says because he didn't want to be so far from his 16-month-old twin daughters in Hopewell, Pa. - and tried to return to Pitt. Coach Paul Chryst wouldn't allow him back.
The 6-foot, 220-pound Shell plans to visit at least those three schools this summer and then enroll for the fall semester.
