Roundup: Power tops Tourists 5-1
West Virginia scored five runs on 10 hits in a 5-1 win over Asheville Saturday at McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C.
Josh Bell paced the Power (49-42), going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and driving in a run. Eric Wood also had two hits and an RBI. John Kuchno (4-4) threw seven strong innings for the win, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out three.
Jason Stoltz had two hits for the Tourists (48-41). The series continues today at 2:05 p.m.
PREP BASKETBALL: Former Hurricane standout Garrett Tinsley signed to play basketball at Alice Lloyd College, in Pipa Pass, Ky., after one year away from the sport. Tinsley averaged 19.3 points per game during his senior season in 2011-12, the third most in the Mountain State Athletic Conference, and 14.5 points per game throughout his high school career.
Graduated Hurricane boys basketball player Rasaan Harris will walk-on to play basketball at Salem International University. Harris averaged 12.4 points per game during his four years at Hurricane and led the Redskins to its first Class AAA state tournament in school history last winter.
VOLLEYBALL OFFICIATING: The Kanawha Southern Volleyball Officials Board will conduct a series of rookie classes for individuals interested in officiating high school and middle school volleyball beginning July 23 at 6 p.m. at George Washington High School.
