Hurricane’s Wallace tops qualifier

HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Hurricane's Doug Wallace fired a 1-over-par 73 to earn low-round honors at a West Virginia Amateur qualifier held at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club on Monday.

A total of 14 players earned a berth into the Amateur, which will be played at The Greenbrier Aug. 5-8 on the Old White TPC and Greenbrier courses.

Other qualifiers Monday at Sleepy were   Hurricane's John Duty Sr. (74); Charleston's Will Johnson (74); Charleston's Roddy Stieger (75); Madison's Harold Howell (75); Scott Depot's Mike Keiffer (75); Barboursville's Zachary Baldwin (76); Chapmanville's Matt Stollings (76); Charleston's Todd Branham (77); Hurricane's Brandon Tinney (77); Vienna's Randy Rogers (77); Hurricane's Wyatt Burgess (78); Hurricane's Aaron Barna (78); and Barboursville's Jason Goad (79). Tom Spriggs of Cross Lanes lost in a playoff hole to Goad and will serve as the first alternate while John Auville of Charleston will serve as the second alternate.
