CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Greater Kanawha Valley Swimming Championships will take place today through Saturday at the University of Charleston natatorium.
Qualifying begins today for the more than 400 swimmers in the city swim meet. Boys and girls ages 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 will start preliminaries today followed by ages 6 and under and 7-8 Thursday and 9-10 and 11-12 Friday. Warmups will begin at 4:25 p.m. with the meet starting at 5:30 p.m. daily.
The finals for all age groups are Saturday with the 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 starting at 9:15 a.m., 19 and over and seniors at 12:30 p.m. and 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 at 3:15 p.m.
The teams competing include Berry Hills Country Club, Charleston Tennis Club, Cross Lanes, Edgewood Country Club, Elkland, Glendale, Greenbrier, Lakewood, Ridgewood, Sleepy Hollow, South Hills, St. Albans, YMCA of Kanawha Valley and YMCA of Southern West Virginia. There are also 12 unattached swimmers who will be competing.
Cross Lanes won its 25th straight city swim meet last year.
