The West Virginia team also plays Virginia on Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. and Tennessee Aug. 4 at noon. Mountaineer/Charleston Central won the state little league championship on Tuesday, capping off an undefeated tournament run with a 3-2 victory over Princeton at Princeton Little League Complex.
WVU RIFLE: West Virginia University junior Maren Prediger won gold in the women's 10-meter air rifle at the Summer Universiade, held July 6-17 in Kazan, Russia.
Representing Germany, the Petersaurach native shot 206.4 in the discipline final on July 12. Prediger, along with German teammates Isabella Straub and Yvonne Scholtterbeck, also finished fourth in the air rifle team competition with a score of 1234.9.
Mountaineer teammate Meelis Kiisk joined Prediger at the competition. The Paide, Estonia, native earned his best finish yesterday, placing 20th in the men's 50-meter rifle 3 positions with a score of 1149.
The Summer Universiade, otherwise known as the World University Summer Games, is a biennial event featuring student-athletes.
The 2015 Games are set for Gwangju, South Korea.
HERD RADIO: The call-in radio shows for Thundering Herd football coach Doc Holliday and basketball coach Tom Herrion will take place at Christopher's Easts, a casual American restaurant in Barboursville.
The Holliday show will be hosted by "Voice of the Herd" Steve Cotton for the 18th consecutive year and air from 7-8 p.m. Thursday nights. Herrion's show will also be aired weekly, with the schedule to be announced at a later date.
Fans can hear the show live on the Thundering Herd IMG Sports Network.
