West Virginia Wesleyan has been picked to win the Mountain East Conference championship in women's soccer in a vote conducted by the league's coaches.
The Bobcats collected six of a possible eight first-place votes and finished with 62 points. Charleston, which grabbed the other two first-place votes, was picked as the runner-up with 50 points, followed by Concord (39) and Shepherd (34).
Notre Dame College was predicted to finish fifth with 30 points, trailed by Wheeling Jesuit (27), Urbana (23) and West Liberty (18).
TRI-STATE PGA GOLF: Jonathan Clark of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club finished in a three-way tie for sixth after the first round at the Tri-State PGA Mansco Plastics Industries Seven Spring Open Monday at Seven Spring Mountain Resort in Champion, Pa.
Gordon Vietmeier of Quicksilver Golf Club finished on top of the leader board with a 6-under-par 65. Clark posted a first-round 70, while Brad Westfall of Tygart Lake Golf Course finished tied for ninth (71).
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Shepherd was ranked No. 25 Monday in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II coaches preseason poll.
