3-run 9th lifts Power to 6-3 win at Savannah
West Virginia scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning as the Power downed Savannah 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Ga.
West Virginia (37-23) scored six runs on 10 hits in the scheduled seven-inning game. Francisco Diaz paced West Virginia with a triple, home run and four RBIs.
Raul Fortunato and Jonathan Schwind received back-to-back walks in the ninth inning and Diaz followed with a triple to right field. Chris Diaz's single to center scored Francisco Diaz.
Cesar Lopez (3-2) collected the win for the Power, going three innings with four strikeouts. Beck Wheeler (1-6) was credited with the loss for the Sand Gnats (28-29), giving up three runs on three hits along with two walks.
The second game of the twin bill was not completed at press time due to multiple rain delays.
