Senior wide receiver Kersey leaves Marshall
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Wide receiver Shawney Kersey has left the Marshall football program, school officials said Thursday.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior was the third of three Penn State transfers to come to Huntington, and battled Demetrius Evans for the "X" receiver spot in the spring. But that battle came with Davonte Allen sidelined, and Allen claimed the starting job last month.
And then coaches shifted Devon "Moo Moo" Smith from the slot to "X," splitting reps with Allen. Buried on the depth chart, Kersey did not play in the Herd's 52-14 win over Miami (Ohio).
