The Marshall women's soccer team defeated previously unbeaten Temple 1-0 Friday in Philadelphia. Myka DeMarco scored what proved to be the winning goal for the Herd and keeper Lizzie Kish picked up her third shutout of the season.
Marshall (3-1-1) only allowed the Owls (4-1-0) to take four shots, the fewest shots given up by the Herd since 2009. The win also gave coach Kevin Long his 100th career win. Marshall will take on LaSalle (2-1-1) Sunday.
WVU SOCCER: The West Virginia University men's team fell 3-0 to No. 6 Georgetown Friday in Washington. Sophomore forward Brandon Allen netted two goals for the Hoyas (2-1) and Bakie Goodman scored the third. The Mountaineers (1-1-1) return to the pitch Sunday to on the defending national champion No. 5 Indiana.
WVU HIRES: Mountaineer Athletic Club Associate Athletic Director and Executive Director Matt Borman announced two new hires and a promotion within the MAC staff.
Kevin Miller was promoted from a major gifts officer to Assistant Athletic Director/Annual Fund and is now responsible for managing and operating West Virginia's annual fund. Susan Hammond joins the staff as the director of donor relations and special events and Michael Gilstorf will be a major gifts officer.
