West Virginia University quarterback Ford Childress was named the Athlon Sports National freshman of the week Sunday.
Making his first career start, the redshirt freshman completed 25 of 41 passes for 359 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Mountaineers' 41-7 win Saturday over Georgia State.
Daikiel Shorts was selected the offensive champion while Nick Kwiatkoski was the defensive champion. The special teams champion was Daryl Worley while offensive scout champion went to Elijah Wellman and defensive scout champion was Jewone Snow.
