Soccer roundup: Charleston Catholic boys remain unbeaten

Joey Trupo led Charleston Catholic's charge with two goals as the No. 1-ranked Fighting Irish improved to 7-0-2 with a 7-0 boys soccer win over Herbert Hoover Thursday at Schoenbaum Stadium.

Noah Cable, Anthony Cipollone, Roger Burrdette, Luke McKown and Luca Paternostro all added a goal apiece for Catholic.

  • GW 3, PRINCETON 0: Drew Davis, Noah Miller and Jeff Hodge each scored a goal in the last 10 minutes as No. 2 George Washington (9-0) won at Princeton (2-7-1).
  • WINFIELD 1, HUNTINGTON 1: Steven Taylor scored for No. 15 Winfield and Austin Preece scored for visiting No. 12 Huntington. Goalie Chad Dye had four saves for the Highlanders (6-3-2) while Bryce Boggs also accounted for four for the Generals (4-4-2).
  • CABELL MIDLAND 2, NITRO 1: John Kuhn and Justin Merritt each tallied a goal in the Knights' win over the host Wildcats. Chase Kirk got Nitro (2-7) on the board and goalkeeper Chris Klocke had five saves. Cabell Midland goalie Blake Beneke accounted for four saves.  
  • SISSONVILLE 4, ST. JOSEPH 0: Andy Minsker, Josh Rawson, Sam Gary and Bryce Tyler tallied goals for Class AA-A No. 5 Sissonville (8-1-2). Indians keeper J.R. Stricklen registered the clean sheet while making 11 saves in the match.
  • CAPITAL 3, RIVERSIDE 1: Thomas Preston, Keenan Barbazette and Raymond Kryzak all had goals for the visiting Cougars (4-6) and keeper Kevin Jones stopped four shots. For the Warriors (3-7-1), Cameron Norris scored and Austin Ballengee had 10 saves.
  • CROSS LANES 11, CALVARY 1: Tyler Corbin and Kyle Davis tallied three goals apiece as Cross Lanes Christian rolled to a home win. Brent Prudich and Ian George added two goals each for the Warriors (8-2) while Zack Matheny had one. Julian Fleshman had the lone goal for Calvary Baptist (2-2-2).

  • HOOVER 4, RIPLEY 1: Hannah Schoolcraft recorded a pair of goals as Class AA-A No. 11 Herbert Hoover earned a road win. Cassie Hammes and Emilee Henry added one goal apiece for the Huskies (7-2-1). Molli Cunningham had the lone goal for Ripley (2-9).
  • WINFIELD 8, HUNTINGTON 0: Mary Lawman and Paige Bannister registered two goals apiece as Class AAA No. 1 Winfield blanked host Huntington. Jordan Pauley, Jayne Lawman, Mackenzie Arthur and M.E. Zulauf also netted goals for the Generals (11-0).
  • GW 6, PRINCETON 1: Sarah Bodnar, Kasey Rhodes and Elishia Davis produced a pair of goals each as Class AAA No. 4 George Washington (8-2) downed Princeton at Trace Fork. Tori Billups had the lone goal for the Tigers (5-5-1).
  • RIVERSIDE 3, CAPITAL 2: Freshman Ashley Hancock netted the winning goal with two minutes remaining as Class AAA No. 14 Riverside edged Capital. Rachel Daw and Megan Buchko also scored for the Warriors (7-3). Alley Reeves had both goals for the Cougars (3-5-1).
  • HURRICANE 11, SC 0: Abby Watson scored three goals as Class AAA No. 2 Hurricane blanked host South Charleston. Kayla McKnight and Josie Kroeger added two goals each for the Redskins (8-0) while Allison Clay, Audrey Barber, Lake Porter and Alexa Halkias had single tallies.
  • POCA 6, LINCOLN COUNTY 2: Harley Hutchins erupted for four goals as Poca bested Lincoln County. Jordan Smith and Kaitlyn Scurlock  also scored for the Dots (3-8-1). Haley Price and Masena Blankenship netted goals for the Panthers.
  • CROSS LANES 3, ST. JOSEPH 0: Kathryn Legg netted a goal as Cross Lanes Christian picked up a road win. Abbigail Holbert and Kaylee Witters also had goals for the Warriors (9-0). Abby Jeffrey made five saves in posting the shutout.
