Area roundup: WVU women climb ranks in soccer polls

The West Virginia women's soccer team climbed three spots to No. 18 in this week's Soccer America Top 25 poll and two spots to No. 23 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

The Mountaineers (6-2-2) picked up wins over Richmond and Wright State this past weekend. Virginia (9-0) is ranked No. 1 and Stanford (7-0-1) is No. 2 in both polls.

  • SOCCER RANKINGS: Six West Virginia high school soccer teams are listed in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Region 4 rankings released Tuesday.

    In the boys division, George Washington sits in the No. 4 spot, followed by Wheeling Park (No. 7) and Parkersburg (No. 9). On the girls side, Winfield occupies the No. 5 slot, while Charleston Catholic (No. 7) and Hurricane (No. 12) are in the top 12.

  • WVU WOMEN: The West Virginia women's basketball team has announced game times for the 2013-14 season.

    Fans will have their first opportunity to see the Mountaineers in action in a 7 p.m. Haunted Hoops exhibition game at the WVU Coliseum on Nov. 1 against Concord.

    WVU's first official game of the regular season is at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Coliseum against Ohio State.
