Renovations set for MU's alternate baseball field
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall's alternate baseball field is undergoing a renovation which should allow it to host nonconference games again.
MU and the YMCA announced renovations to the baseball field at the Kennedy Center on Thursday. The field, along W.Va. Route 2 northeast of Huntington, had been used as a nonconference home site but had fallen into disrepair. The Thundering Herd played those games in Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, among other venues.
With funding through grants, donations and lease payments from MU athletics, the diamond will feature a FieldTurf infield and a laser grading and resodding of the outfield, plus a new drainage and sprinkler system.
The Herd will still play Conference USA home games at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston for the time being.
