Soccer roundup: South Charleston, Nitro boys play to 1-1 draw

Jared Butler booted the tying goal off a free kick just outside the penalty box with about 10 minutes left as visiting South Charleston salvaged a 1-1 draw with Nitro in boys high school soccer Thursday.

Chase Kirk tallied a goal for the Wildcats (2-10-1) and Chris Klocke stopped seven shots. Jacob Gordon made five saves for the AAA No. 9 Black Eagles (8-4-3).

  •   MIDLAND 1, HURRICANE 1: Hurricane and Cabell Midland battled to a draw on Thursday. Loran Meadows notched the goal for the Redskins (7-5-2) while Noah Wilds scored for the Knights.
  • SCOTT 3, HOOVER 0: Nick Raby netted two goals as Scott blanked visiting Herbert Hoover. Ryan Cowan also had a goal for the Skyhawks.
  • WINFIELD 3, SPRING VALLEY 2: Nathan Keefe, Hunter Sheldon and Jesse Richmond posted one goal apiece as visiting Winfield (8-5-2) downed Spring Valley. Dana Maynard and Jacob Maddox scored for the Timberwolves (2-9-2).
  • PIKEVIEW 2, SISSONVILLE 0: Alex Testerman and Seth Wood scored one goal apiece as Class AA-A No. 10 PikeView upset No. 4 Sissonville. Keeper Austin Cordell made seven saves for the Panthers to preserve the shutout.
  • CROSS LANES 8, OHIO VALLEY 2: Kyle Davis netted five goals as Cross Lanes Christian downed host Ohio Valley Christian in Gallipolis, Ohio. Brent Prudich added two goals for the Warriors (12-2) while Tyler Corbin had one. T.G. Miller and Micah Sanders scored for Ohio Valley (5-4-1).

  • SISSONVILLE 2, PIKEVIEW 0: Taylor Rhodes and Madison Jones each tallied a goal as the visiting Indians (14-0-1) downed the Panthers. PikeView goalkeeper Kristen Ridley collected six saves.
  • RIVERSIDE 7, SHADY SPRING 3: Senior Rachel Daw erupted for three goals as Riverside downed visiting Shady Spring. Erin Hendricks contributed two goals for the Warriors (9-5-1) while Megan Buchko and Ashley Hancock added one apiece. Hannah Thompson, Lauren Slock and Lyndsey Thompson found the back of the net for Shady Spring.
  • HURRICANE 10, MIDLAND 0: Nine different Hurricane players scored as the Class AAA No. 2 Redskins cruised to a win over Cabell Midland. Kayla McKnight, Brittany McWatters, Allison Clay, Abby Watson, Audrey Barber, Maddie Thomas, Josie Kroeger, Anna Dyer and Maddie Thomas recorded goals for Hurricane, which also benefitted from a Cabell Midland own-goal.
  • HOOVER 3, POCA 0: Lesley Taylor, Emilee Henry and Hannah Schoolcraft each scored a goal as Class AA-A No. 9 Herbert Hoover defeated visiting Poca. Bailey Aab made six saves for the Huskies (11-3-1).
  • CROSS LANES 5, SCOTT 0: Courtney Kendrick tallied a pair of goals as Cross Lanes Christian downed host Scott. Kathryn Legg, Abbigail Holbert and Taylor Mullins also had goals for the Warriors (13-0).
