The West Virginia Golf Association will host a weekend-long Centennial Celebration Nov. 1-2 at Stonewall Resort. The event will commemorate the WVGA's 100th anniversary, along with the induction of the 2013 WVGA Hall of Fame members and recognizing the players of the year.
Huntington's Pat Carter is one of two people being inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with Julius Pollock of Wheeling. Award winners include Hurricane's Sam O'Dell (Player of the Year), Huntington's Steve Fox (Senior Player of the Year) and Winfield's Chris Williams (Junior Player of the Year).
GIRLS SOCCER: Laine Roberts netted two goals to help Nitro record a 4-3 win over visiting St. Albans Wednesday. Autumn Griggs scored the game-winning goal with 13 minutes left to break a 3-all tie. Caitlyn Calhoun also scored for the Wildcats (5-8-1).
Madison Cogar, Audrey Good and Kelsy Thompson each tallied a goal for the Red Dragons (7-10-2).
GLENVILLE COACH RESIGNS: Glenville State women's basketball coach Bunky Harkleroad has resigned a month before the start of the regular season to accept a similar job at Sacramento State.
Harkleroad replaces Jamie Craighead, who left Sacramento State after four seasons to take over the head coaching position at San Jose State.
Harkleroad went 91-31 in four seasons at Division II Glenville State, including a 27-4 record last season in which he was named the West Virginia Conference coach of the year.
