The West Virginia University women's cross country team finished first at the Penn State Nationals Friday in University Park, Pa. The Mountaineers dominated the event, claiming four of the top-five finishes.
Sophomore Kelly Williams was the first Mountaineer to cross the line, finishing in second place overall with a time of 21:22.
Freshman Jillian Forsey finished in third, senior Sara Martinelli crossed the line in fourth and junior Savanna Plombon came in fifth place (21:47) for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers (12-2-2, 6-0 Big 12) made quick work of the Jayhawks (6-7-2, 0-3-1 Big 12), scoring both goals in the first 14 minutes of the match. Senior Sara Keane made two saves for her sixth shutout of the year.
MEC TENNIS: West Virginia State's John Simms was named Mountain East Conference tennis coach of the year after guiding the Yellow Jackets to the MEC championship.
