Roundup: W.Va. State women win MEC tennis title

West Virginia State capped off a perfect fall campaign with a 5-1 win over second-seeded West Liberty on Saturday to claim the Mountain East Conference women's tennis title at the Schoenbaum Courts in Charleston.

The Yellow Jackets, who completed MEC regular-season play with a 7-0 record, dropped only a match in doubles en route to the tournament title.

  • West Virginia women's cross country sophomore Kelly Williams has been named the WVU Varsity Sport Report athlete of the week. Williams posted a second-place finish at the Penn State Nationals last Friday in University Park, Pa., crossing the line in 21:22.

  • HERD VOLLEYBALL: Marshall junior setter Sammie Bane has earned Conference USA setter of the week honors.  Bane led Marshall to a pair of straight-set victories last weekend over UAB and East Carolina. She dished out 81 assists over the two-matches with a .415 set percentage.
